Ritz-Carlton, the upmarket (a very valid description in this case) hotel brand operated by Marriott International, is looking to expand its resorts in China.
Simon Cooper, seen here who is president and chief operating officer, told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of a travel conference that the hotelier operates seven hotels in the world’s fastest-growing economy.
Simon Cooper said, ‘The Chinese are going to become more sophisticated about travel. One of the potential growth areas for us there is to continue to develop more resorts.’
Reuters reported Cooper as saying he expected recovery in the global hotel market to be quicker in China because of the strength of its economy.
Cooper expects revenues and revenue per available room – revpar – a key industry measure, for Ritz-Carlton’s hotels to pick up gradually between October this year and March 2010.
