SAIC-GM venture to launch new sedan

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co, China’s biggest producer of minivans, will launch a new branded passenger car, state media reported. The three-member joint venture said it would launch a self-developed brand in the medium-sized sedan market. "Starting in the passenger car business will make this year a milestone for SAIC-GM-Wuling, while we still work to maintain our dominant leadership in China’s light commercial vehicle market," said Yang Jie, the company’s general sales manager said. The new car is based on the prototype of GM’s Excelle sedan and was developed by the Pan-Asian Technical Automotive Center, a joint venture between GM and SAIC. The company plans to launch at lease one new model every year.
