SAP boosts China research role

German software giant SAP announced plans to boost its research and development base in China, building a dedicated new campus in Shanghai. Shang-Ling Jui, managing director of SAP Labs China told the China Daily the new labs would employ 1,500 software engineers by 2009, compared with the current 200 researchers with SAP China. He said the previous function of the software research teams in China had been to localize software products developed in other parts of the world. Now, he said, the company wanted to see China become a global development base.
