On the second day of his six-day China tour, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger hailed a "new era of opportunity" between his state and its fifth largest trading partner after Canada, Mexico, Japan and the EU. Unlike the US, California has a trade surplus with China. It also has an ethnic Chinese community of nearly one million and the sixth biggest GDP in the world, last year shipping US$6.8 billion in exports to China, a 25% increase over 2003.
