Second death from pneumonic plague in Qinghai

A second man has died of pneumonic plague in northwestern China’s Qinghai province and authorities have quarantined a town to prevent further infection, Bloomberg reported, citing state media. The 37-year-old man living in in Ziketan in eastern Qinghai province was a neigbor of the first person to have died of pneumonic plague. Ten other people, mostly relatives of the first victim, are being kept in isolation, state media reported. Authorities are also disinfecting the area and tracking down people who may have come in contact with the victims. Officials said that anyone who visited the area since July 16 and has since developed a fever or cough should seek treatment in a hospital.
