Securities rules relaxed

Revised securities rules aimed at small shareholders will allow overseas non-financial institutions and their holding companies to invest in Chinese securities firms, state media reported. The proposed revisions will exempt small overseas shareholders investing less than 5% in a Chinese security company from current rules restricting investment to foreign financial corporations. There would no major changes to the rules for foreign financial corporations holding larger stakes.
