Senior securities regulator official under investigation

The party’s Commission for Discipline Inspection has announced it is investigating Zhang Yujun, assistant chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, for suspected “serious violation of discipline,” Reuters reported. The graft watchdog gave no further details, but the terminology it used in its statement on its website is a euphemism for corruption. Zhang was not available for comment. He is the first official at the regulatory commission to come under investigation during the recent equities turmoil as authorities attempt to restore confidence in the country’s smoking ruin of a stock market.
