Shade during the day, light at night

Solar shade panelsEnvironmentally friendly panels double as shelter in a landscaped area on Guangzhong Road in Zhabei District, Shanghai. EastDay reports the panels can collect solar energy to light the area after dark.
This is pretty neat because the panels look quite snazzy as a design and also save electricity. There will undoubtedly be more of it.
How it works is that the solar panels use light energy (photons) from the sun to generate electricity through a photo-voltaic effect.
In order to use the cells in practical applications, they must be:
Connected electrically to one another and to the rest of the system.
Protected from mechanical damage during manufacture, transport and installation and use (in particular against hail impact, wind and snow loads).
So these shelters are not the answer to everything. But they are start. And a damned attractive one at that.
