Shanghai court gives OSI employees jail sentences in food safety case

A court in Shanghai has handed prison sentences ten employees at two Chinese units of US food supplier OSI Group and fined the company RMB2.4 million (US$364,875) for reusing products from returned or canceled orders, Reuters reported, citing a court statement. OSI China General Manager Yang Liqun was sentenced to three years in prison and deportation, though it wasn’t clear whether the time would be served in China. OSI criticized the verdict, which followed a December trial behind closed doors, calling it “inconsistent with the facts and evidence that were presented in the court proceedings”.
