The trigger behind a violent spree on Saturday that left six people dead and four injured at a chemical plant in Shanghai appeared to involve the factory’s closure, Caixin reported. Fan Jieming, the man behind the attack, was the office manager at the plant, which ceased operations on May 16 due to pollution complaints by residents in Shanghai’s Baoshan district. There was discord between Fan and the factory owner over the plant’s dismantling, and Fan allegedly became violent when a worker arrived to take equipment apart. Fan then got hold of a gun, killing several people including the factory owner. He was arrested at the scene and is now in police custody.
