Shanghai mayor wants affordable housing near Disneyland

Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng wants budget housing to be sold for 50% less than the market price near the site of the intended Disneyland amusment park, the South China Morning Post reported. "I must stress that we don’t expect housing prices around the Disneyland project to be too high," Han said. Land close to Disney theme parks is typically sold at a premium to hotels and restaurants. Before construction begins on the project, the first phase of which will cost US$3.7 billion, some US$8.8 million must be paid to residents and business owners forced to relocate to make way for the park, which will be one of the Disney’s smallest.
