A cloud computing innovation center has been launched in Yangpu district, Shanghai. Cloud computing is internet-based computing whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices on-demand, rather like electricity.
The center is expected to integrate four functions: as an incubator, accelerator, as well as a base for headquarters and talent training.
First-comers include giants like EMC China Center of Excellence, Kaspersky, Baidu and Air-World. By the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan in 2015, the plan is for the center to have gathered some 300 upstream and downstream enterprises in this industry and have an output value of RMB15 billion (US$2.24 billion.)
English People’s Daily Online reports that in the next five years, Yangpu will invest RMB200 million (US$29.9 million) in the industry.
