Shanghai terror plot foiled: official

A senior Shanghai security official said police had stopped a plan for a terrorist attack against an Olympic arena in the city during the Olympics, the Wall Street Journal reported. Shanghai deputy director of public security Cheng Jiulong said police had conducted raids and caught a terrorist cell in the city, though he did not mention the suspects’ names or the nature of the threat. The announcement follows a number of official claims to have cracked terrorist networks in the run-up to the games.
