Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has opened a new training centre in Shenzhen, Guangdong province. The new facility will train mainland staff for key positions in the company's growing number of China hotels. The training centre in the Shangri-La Shenzhen hotel offers classes to sous chefs on food and beverage operations and to supervisors and assistant managers on front office management, housekeeping and laundry.
Several years ago, the group closed a joint venture training centre that it had established in Beijing. This time it has decided to use its own in-house expertise, rather than partnering with another organisation. Shenzhen was chosen because of its proximity to Hong Kong, where many experienced staff who will teach at the centre are based.
