Shenzen economy to double by 2010

Shenzhen mayor Xu Zongheng has predicted the city’s economy will double in size over the next four years, the South China Morning Post reported. Xu said Thursday the city’s economy grew more than 15% last year and showed no signs of slowing down. Thanks to the recent revision of China’s gross domestic product, Shenzhen’s economy is now only slightly smaller than that of Guangzhou, which is the third largest after Shanghai and Beijing. Shenzhen is now ranked first on the mainland in per capita foreign trade and gross domestic product, Xu said.
