Shenzhen residents to be restricted to one Hong Kong visit a week, sources say

Shenzhen authorities will soon restrict visits by the city’s residents to neighboring Hong Kong to once a week, Reuters reported, citing Michael Tien, a Hong Kong member of China’s rubber-stamp legislature. Local media said the travel curbs, which would bring allowances down from the current unlimited number of daily trips, could come into effect as early as Monday. Some 47 million mainland Chinese visitors streamed into Hong Kong in 2014, fueling economic growth but also taking the blame for pushing up shop rents and property prices, as well as emptying store shelves of daily necessities.
