Seven new towns each capable of supporting about 500,000 people are to be built outside Shenzhen special economic zone in the next decade, reported Xinhua. Construction of the satellite towns is due to start later this year, said Shenzhen mayor Yu Youjun, and he hoped they would ‘take shape’ in three to five years.
Shenzhen was first of China’s five SEZs to be founded in 1980 and it has been the most successful in attracting foreign direct investment.
