[photopress:Yangshan.jpg,full,alignright]Marine Port China 2006 opens at the Shanghai International Exhibition Centre on September 27 for three days. The exhibition, which is jointly organised by the China Ports and Harbors Association, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Shanghai Sub-council, the China Chamber of International Commerce and the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce is all about construction, technologies, shipping, logistics.
Over 100 exhibitors of port machinery and supporting facilities, from eight countries, are exhibiting at the fair, which is expected to attract about ten thousand professional visitors from China and Southeast Asia.
China’s ports are focussed on creating specialised container and deepwater terminals and transforming old style ports into streamlined logistic centres. Three large new ports are to be built on the Yangtze and Pearl river deltas and Bohai Bay area within 5 years.
Appropriate that it is held in Shanghai where the construction of the container terminals in the Yangshan Deepwater Port area creating a deepwater port to focus on ocean trunk transportation. Other construction projects by the port include the Luojing Port Phase
II Project and the Waigaoqiao Terminals Phase VI Project.
By the end of last year, the cargo handling capacity of Shanghai Port had risen to 380 million tons. It is anticipated that the overall cargo handling capacity there will be more than 470 million tons by the year 2010.
