A massive strike at a shoe factory in the southern city of Dongguan continued as workers rejected an offer of improved social benefits on Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing a spokesman for Yue Yuen Industrial (0551.HKG), which runs the factory. The industrial unrest, now stretching to around 10 days and sparking clashes with police, has centered on issues including unpaid social insurance, improper labor contracts and low wages. Despite the company’s offer of a higher social security payment, thousands of workers loitered in and around the leafy industrial estate, refusing to return to their production lines.
