Siemens wins Shanghai metro order

German electronics and engineering firm Siemens announced that it has won an order to supply up to 38 trains for the Shanghai metro system. The deal includes a fixed contract for 28 trains for the Pearl line, with an option for another 10 for the Shanghai extension line. The trains will be manufactured by Siemens in Hunan province with local partner Zhuzhou Electrical Locomotive Works, with 80 per cent of the proceeds going to Siemens.
