Sina Q3 profit excluding items down, active Weibo users up

Sina (SINA.NASDAQ) reported that lower earnings excluding items had fallen to US$13.1 million for the period ended September 30, down from US$28.5 million a year earlier, and projected fourth-quarter revenue of US$204-210 million excluding US$2.6 million of deferred license revenue, The Wall Street Journal reported. However the company said Thursday that its popular Weibo (WB.NASDAQ) microblog platform made progress in revenue, which had increased 58% to US$84.1 million, as well as monthly active users, which had risen to 167 million, up 36% from a year ago.
