Singh calls for Sino-Indian nuclear cooperation

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called for more cooperation between China and India on the development of the countries’ nuclear energy programs, AFP reported. Speaking on the last day of his visit to China, Singh said given the two countries’ rapid growth, India and China "have no choice but to widen our options for energy availability and develop viable strategies for energy security." India’s reaching out to China as a nuclear partner follows recent criticism of a US-Indian nuclear agreement from over 20 special interest groups in the US that could affect the Bush adminstration’s proposal to provide nuclear fuel and technology to India.
