Sinopec, Macquarie in Canadian investment talks

Sinopec is in talks with Australia’s biggest investment bank about raising money for increased expansion in Canada, Bloomberg reported. Song Guoming, a Sinopec finance manager, said that company representatives met with the Macquarie Group’s Canadian unit on Tuesday to look at its methods of raising funds. "We’ve had discussions over what kind of cooperation we can have in the area of financial services," Song said on Tuesday. Sinopec, Asia’s biggest refiner, plans rapid overseas expansion to secure oil supplies, company spokesman Huang Wensheng said last month. The Sinopec representatives were joined by more than 150 senior Chinese corporate and government leaders and their Canadian counterparts at the Canada China Business Forum in Toronto. Canada is keen to increase trade with China to reduce its reliance on the US economy.
