Six US steelmakers seek tariffs against China and others to counter imports

Six steel producers with substantial operations in the US have filed a trade complaint that seeks punitive tariffs against what they allege to be unfairly priced steel from mainland China, India, Italy, South Korea and Taiwan, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a statement from the companies lawyers. A flood of imports of the variety of steel in question, used in the auto and construction industries, have “devastated pricing in the US market, increased their share of the US market by undercutting US producers’ prices and caused injury to US producers and their workers,” the lawyers said.
