Seoul has allowed South Korean airlines to comply with China’s air defense zone after a reversal of policy, The Financial Times reported. South Korean carriers will now be free to inform Chinese aviation authorities of their presence in the air defense indentification zone China established at the end of November. In explaining its change of policy, the South Korean transport ministry cited safety concerns, noting that tensions had heightened after Seoul announced that it was expanding its own defence zone. China welcomed the policy change with the ADIZ, saying it would ‘help China maintain the security of its territory and airspace.’
