More than 5,000 people attended a 5-day Guangzhou SME fair staged by the central and Guangdong provincial governments to bring buyers and sellers together. The event drew buyers from Wal-Mart, Carrefour, Marubeni and other companies scouting for supply deals in arts and crafts, textiles, household appliances, hardware, food and medicine. According to official data, China has 3.6 million registered SMEs which account for 55.6% of China's GDP, 74.7% of its industrial output, 62.3% of exports, nearly two thirds of registered patents.
