Sony takes an energy break

Responding to the city's calls to slow energy consumption, Sony Corp shut operations at one of its two Shanghai plants for five days. The plant in question is Shanghai Suoguang Visual Products, a venture with Shanghai SVA Information and Shanghai Vacuum Electronic Parts. The city asked 3,000 companies to rotate production after temperatures went above 35 degrees Celsius, when air conditioning power consumption tends to skyrocket. Carmaking giants General Motors and Volkswagen have already implemented rotation schemes.
