State Council cites government corruption in mines

The executive session of the State Council said some government officials are enmeshed in the rampant corruption and resulting disasters in coal mines and must be stopped, state media reported. The highest state officials said some local officials get involved in the coal mine business in exchange for illegal money and have become the "umbrella" for some illegal operations that are allowed to ignore safety warnings.The State Council meeting adopted a resolution saying severe penalties would be meted out and that managers must take turns working alongside miners.
