The State Council has released details of a plan to revamp China’s health care system, the Wall Street Journal reported. Included in the US$123 billion plan, first announced in January, is an emphasis on construction of health care facilities – according to the plan, every village will have a medical clinic and every county at least one hospital by 2011. State subsidies for insurance premiums were also highlighted, with the goal of extending a minimum of basic coverage to 90% or more of China’s population within three years. The new details did not contain any information about a possible revamping of the public hospital system, seen as key to the success of health reform in China.
