Supermarket giant Sun Art Retail (6808.HKG) on Thursday said it is moving into online shopping in China, Reuters reported. Sun Art’s push into e-commerce comes as competition in the domestic hypermarket sector heats up, with a tie-up between Tesco (TESO.NYSE, TSCO.LON) and China Resources Enterprise (HKG.0219) announced this month potentially posing a challenge to its lead. With promises of farm-fresh produce to a nation obsessed with food safety, online retailers in China have turned grocery shopping into a business with sales valued at US$1.88 billion (RMB11.5 billion) this year.
