Surge in Xiaolingtong subscribers

The number of subscribers to the Xiaolingrong urban wireless service increased 70 per cent in the first
five months of 2003, reported the Ministry of Information Industry's People's Posts and
Telecommunications News. By the end of May there were 20m subscribers. of which
China Telecom accounted for 1 6m and China Netcom the rest.
Xiaolingtong is a
wireless local loop access network that allows mobility within an urban area. Its success in
recent months has forced mobile operators China Mobile and China Unicorn to cut their
