Survey finds Chinese consumers still relatively upbeat about economy

71% of of 1,200 Chinese consumers from nine mainland cities surveyed expect their wages to increase this year and 84% expect to spend more, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a report by consulting firm McKinsey. Those surveyed gave China’s economy and outlook a 6.8 on a ten-point scale, and heavy online shoppers, people in their 30s and consumers in the country’s largest cities were particularly “unbothered” by the slowdown.  84% of respondents also said they expected to buy more online in the next six months, though more than 50% said their equity investment lost money when China’s stock rally turned to a rout in June.
