China has announced it will expel activist Peter Jesper Dahlin following his on-air confession broadcast by state media, The New York Times reported. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Dahlin, a human rights group organizer from Sweden, was suspected of “funding criminal activities harmful to China’s national security,” and that he had made a ” full and frank confession.” He had been detained in the first week of January while trying to leave China for Thailand, the only foreigner out of at least eleven legal workers and rights advocates arrested in the year so far on accusations of subversion or inciting subversion.
