The Mainland’s chief negotiator with Taiwan, Chen Yunlin, said after his arrival for a new round of talks with his Taiwanese counterpart that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait should expand the scale and scope of their economic exchanges and cooperation next year when China‘s 12th five-year plan will formally kick off.\
It marked the first time that Chen, president of the Beijing-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), has publicly invited Taiwanese investors to take part in the Mainland’s new development plan.
At the same time an economics official warned that Taiwan could become even more reliant on the Mainland for merchandise production if Taiwanese companies continue their current practice of ‘duplicating’ their Taiwan-based production lines in China while suspending their development of new production technology.
Focus Taiwan reported that Economic Daily News has an item which read:
In addition to promoting China‘s economic development, social harmony and stability, the 12th five-year plan is also expected to generate new opportunities for cross-strait economic cooperation.
