Taiwan pull Uighur film after mainland protest

Taiwan has excluded a film about exiled Uighur leader Rebiya Kadeer from the line-up at its October film festival after mainland Chinese tourists cancelled hotel bookings in protest, the Wall Street Journal reported. The film, called "The 10 Conditions of Love", was scheduled to be shown during the Kaohsiung film festival next month but the city government has now agreed that it will be screened this week instead. Local hoteliers reported that as many as 20% of inbound mainland tourists, amounting to several thousand people, had threatened to cancel their bookings if the film were shown. Taiwan’s struggling tourism industry is increasingly reliant on Chinese tourists, who until recently were banned from travelling to the island.
