Taiwan to seek direct air links

Taiwan has prepared to ask China to work out a deal under which Chinese airlines will fly to Taiwan during the Chinese new year holiday in January 2004. According to Taiwanese government officials, the deal would allow Taiwanese businesspeople to fly charter flights home in January in a scheme similar to the model established earlier this year.

During Chinese new year this year, Taiwan and the mainland allowed Taiwan-based airlines to operate indirect charter flights to China.
