Flat panels are now the only way to go. Taiwan’s industrial policy-making department believes it should let its makers of flat panels set up plants in China before semiconductor manufacturers.
Vivian Lien, director of the Industrial Bureau’s industrial policy division, said, “The speed of our opening will be step by step, we won’t open all our investment to mainland China at the same time.”
The China Post reports the number of liquid-crystal display televisions sold in the world’s fastest-growing major economy jumped 87% to 25 million sets in 2009. Still plenty of room to grow.
