Teamsters union President James Hoffa will visit China this week, making him the first Teamsters president to come to the mainland, the Wall Street Journal reported. His visit shows American labor groups' increasing willingness to engage with China's state-sanctioned trade federation. Hoffa will visit facilities of American companies United Parcel Service and YRC Worldwide, who are the largest employers of Teamsters members in the US. The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), the major US trade union group, does not recognize the mainland's All-China Federation of Trade Unions because Chinese unions do not have the right to strike, among other restrictions. Hoffa described his visit as "purely a fact-finding mission."
