The auction by China Central Television (CCTV) of advertising time slots in January and February 2002 raised Yn2.63bn, 22 per cent more than the amount raised in 2001, Beijing Morning Post said. The highest price paid for an individual slot was Yn20.6m for the position after CCTV’s daily news programme, paid by Anhui Gujing Group. It was followed closely by the Yn20.2m paid for the slot between the news and the weather forecast by Hangzhou Wahaha Group.
Pharmaceutical firms again dominated the bidding, and they accounted for nine of the 14 companies that shared the 15-second slot before the daily news. Home electronics firms, which were strongly represented several years ago, no longer seemed interested. A representative from Haier Group, one of the largest home appliance manufacturers in China, was reported to have attended the auction but abstained from bidding.
