China’s internet giant Tencent Holdings (0700.HKG) seeks to monetize its WeChat messaging service by introducing games, Bloomberg reported. The company is trying to commercialize the service to compete with Sina’s (SINA.NASDAQ, YIN.FRA) Weibo, a Twitter-like micro-blogging service. WeChat is the most widely used app in China with nearly 200 million users in the first quarter of the year. It will take between five and 10 years to fully commercialize the application, according to Deco You at internet consulting firm iResearch in Beijing. Tencent’s net income rose 37% to US$657 million in the first three months of the year.
