An annual meeting between China, Japan and South Korea is likely to be postponed due to territorial disputes and strained relations between the three countries, South China Morning Post reported, citing Japanese media. Ties between China and Japan are frayed due to ongoing disputes over the Diaoyu Islands, also known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan. South Korea’s relations with Japan are also strained over a set of islets and also on the issue of “comfort women”. Japanese affairs expert, Liu Jiangyong, at Tsinghua University has said that conditions are not ripe for top Chinese and Japanese leaders to meet.
