Some China-related numbers you may have missed:
184: The amount of people killed in last week’s riots in Xinjiang province. According to state media of the 184 people that were killed, 137 were Han, 46 Uighur and one was of another ethnic minority.
22k: The number of people who took shelter in tents after last week’s earthquake in Yao’an County in Yunnan province.
25: The number of days that three miners survived in the flooded Xinqiao Coal Mine in Guizhou province before finally being discovered and immediately rescued. Miraculously, the three men, who had survived by licking water off the walls of the coal mine, were in stable condition although rescuers continue to look for 12 of the 16 other miners were trapped were underground when the mine flooded.
80%: The amount of people (out of 400,000) in a Sina.com poll who supported the actions of an elderly man who threw dozens of bricks at cars that ran red lights at an intersection Lanzhou, Gansu province. The unnamed 74-year-old retired school teacher, who damaged more than 30 cars, told the Lanzhou Morning Post, "I just want to catch people’s attention and tell the drivers to think of pedestrians."
