Three Gorges firm fined for flouting environment law

The State Environmental Protection Administration (Sepa) has fined the China Yangtze Three Gorges Project Corporation RMB600,000 for failing to assess the environmental impact of the construction of three of its energy facilities. The fines are the largest imposed by the agency in its recent crackdown of illegal projects. Before construction projects are approved, firms must provide assessments on their ecological impact. The recent Sepa crackdown is significant as it marks one of the first challenges the environmental agency has posed to China's largest companies.
