A Guangzhou court jailed three men for up to three years for making thousands of counterfeit Louis Vuitton purses worth more than US$1.3 million, the South China Morning Post reported. The men, from Chongqing, were also fined RMB2,000 to RMB3,000 each. The case took place in Huadu district, which Louis Vuitton China had labeled the "center" of counterfeit LV products in China. "It is the first time we have successfully taken action against counterfeit producers in Huadu," Tan Yanping, the company's anti-counterfeit department manager said. Police seized more than 10,000 fake LV purses from warehouses and a factory last September.
