Tianjin's anti-pollution measures to restrict traffic

The city of Tianjin announced that it would halve the number of vehicles on the road on severely polluted days, just one of many measures the local government plans to employ in the fight against gray skies, Reuters reported. It also said it would halt construction and manufacturing, close schools and halt large-scale outdoor activities. The measures follow Tianjin’s decision last month to ban new steel and cement plants, after similar statements from neighboring Hebei province and Beijing. China has identified the region of Beijing, Hebei and Tianjin as one of the key targets in curbing polluting industries.
