Tibet reopening delayed

Tibet will not be reopened to tourists on May 1, AFP reported, in a reversal of government plans. A new date for reopening has not been set. Tour operators have been informed of the postponement, which affects both domestic and foreign tourists. The government started clearing Tibet of foreign tourists on March 14 after anti-China riots started in Lhasa. On April 3, the government said tourists would be allowed to enter again starting May 1, a national holiday. No official reason has been given for the delay.
