Tougher policing of pornography and messaging

The Ministry of Information Industry vowed to continue to combat Internet pornography, after identifying 700 porn sites in a sweep involving 14 different government ministries. MII Vice-Minister Xi Guohua said his department, apart from drawing up tighter regulations, would improve internet supervision in an effort to identify porn rings and punish violators. Development of automatic reporting systems would also be stepped up. In what appeared to be a major departure, MII said it would also increase surveillance of text messaging services.
