October 16 was a normal weekend, and the 169th day since the Shanghai World Expo Park opened. But it was a very special day because the number of tourists at the Expo Park topped 1 million, bringing the accumulated visitor figures to 64.6 million by 9 p.m.
The surrounding roads were all blocked, beginning in the morning, and visitor flow at various entrances was very heavy. Almost every bus station inside the park had long lines.
At 11:38 a.m., visitor flow at the Expo Park had reached 633,500 people, creating a new record since the Shanghai World Expo opened. Meanwhile, the accumulated number of tourists also reached more than 64.2 million people, creating a new record in the World Expo’s history.
China.org.cn reports it was not only the largest single-day passenger flow at the Shanghai World Expo but also the largest single-day passenger flow in the history of the Expo.
