Two more mine accidents

Sixteen workers were killed and 42 others trapped underground in two separate coal mine accidents, state media reported. The 16 deaths at the Zhonghe mine in Liupanshui city, Guizhou province, were caused by a gas explosion while flooding was responsible for trapping 42 of 76 miners who were working underground at the Sigou coal mine in Xin'an county, Henan province. These latest accidents occurred as the death toll from last week's explosion at the Dongfeng coal mine near Qitaihe city, Heilongjiang province rose to 169.
