Two men were sentenced to death, and the head of a dairy company was jailed for life for their roles in the tainted milk scandal that killed six infants and made 300,000 ill last year, the Financial Times reported. Two men who made and sold milk tainted with the industrial chemical melamine received the death sentence from the Intermediate People’s Court in Shijiazhuang, Hebei. Tian Wenhua, the female former chief of Sanlu, the dairy company at the center of the scandal, was sent to prison for life and was fined US$3 million. Tian admitted that she knew about the contamination as early as May, but that she did not disclose the information until after the Beijing Olympics in August. Police prevented the families of victims from attending the sentencing and detained others who were en route to the court.
